To the excitement of many, the surprise of others, and the curiosity of more than a few, Steve Perry, the iconic and much-beloved former frontman of Journey, has signed a new record deal. As of this announcement, the details regarding the label and the terms remain undisclosed. Personally, I am thrilled, very supportive, and pleasantly surprised.

In prior interviews following the release of his 2018 album "Traces," Perry mentioned that he walked away from the limelight because he had lost his spark; the love for singing was no longer there. This wasn't a new mindset for the iconic voice of the '80s. Before joining Journey, he was involved in a project called Alien Project. After the tragic death of his bassist, Perry decided to walk away from music. It was only after much prompting from his mother that he accepted an offer to audition for Journey.

I have always believed that Steve Perry would only return under two core conditions: first, the inspiration to write, record, and perform had to return, and second, he had to feel confident that he could perform at a standard acceptable to himself. His decades-long absence from the spotlight has only contributed to the growth of his legend, and entire generations of music lovers are eager to buy a ticket to see him perform once again.

As for a potential return to Journey, that's a completely different topic with theories I'll share another time. For now, let's celebrate the exciting news of Steve Perry's return to the music scene and eagerly anticipate what he has in store for us.
